Four Eureka Tornado sophomores qualified for 2A State Track & Field in five events last Thursday, May 17, at the Eureka Regional.
Eureka’s TJ Mills and Rose Buck will make their second state track and field appearance and Tornadoes Peyton Hare and Britta Mongeau will make their first.
Mills qualified in the 100M Dash and 200M Dash. Last year, he competed at the state contest in the 4x100M Relay where the relay team placed fifth at 3A State. He placed third in the 100M with a time of 11.34 and finished second with a personal record of 22.85 in the 200M.
Buck qualified in the 800M Dash with a personal record time of 2:23.13, placing fourth. During her freshman year, she placed fourth in the 1600M and third in the 3200M at 3A State.
Mongeau and Hare also set personal records at the regional and placed third in their events. Mongeau finished the 1600M run with a time of 5:34.43 and Hare finished the 400M Dash in a time of 50.70.
A special send-off is slated for this Friday, May 24, TBD. The Tornadoes will leave from the Tornado Activity Center, at Eureka Junior/ Senior High School and travel down 7th and Main Streets before turning west on River Street to head to Wichita State University for the state event.
