Monica McCormick will soon be sharing her skill for crafting with the Eureka Community.

Located at 113 E. 2nd Street in Eureka, McCormick’s Whimsical Wonders In Stained Glass will hold its grand opening on Thursday, May 23. The little shop, located just around the corner from The Gym, may be small, but it leaves a colorful impression. Featuring a variety of hand-crafted glass works, items such as ornaments and suncatchers, Whimsical Wonders In Stained Glass will be open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

In addition to the variety of trinkets that will be available for purchase, McCormick does custom works, small repair projects and will also host classes with limited seating.

McCormick and husband Doug Desbien first joined the Eureka community after they purchased a lake lot in 1996. This served as a weekend home until the couple retired in 2015. Since that time, they have been living at Eureka Lake full-time. Though McCormick has always been crafty, she first began working with stained glass approximately 15 years ago and has participated in a number of craft fairs and art shows since. A hobby McCormick picked up while recovering from a severe leg injury in 2009, turned into a skill she continues to share with others, including her husband who also works with stained glass.

At one time, she and her husband operated an Airbnb experience, teaching stained glass classes to those who visited their home. Through this experience, McCormick had the opp ortunity to offer instruction to individuals from 3 to 80 years of age.

In addition to crafting, McCormick’s spare time centers around what Desbien refers to as, “Their paradise at the lake.” McCormick’s interests include cooking, before retiring she worked as a chef; gardening/landscaping; boating and maintaining an active lifestyle.

Monica and Doug’s collective interests also extend to building/ construction. The couple built their new business location from the ground up. Since joining the community, they have completed multiple restoration projects.
