The West Elk Patriot football team traveled to Central Burden last Friday, September 15, where the Patriots fell, 28-48.

The West Elk Patriot football team traveled to Central Burden last Friday, September 15, where the Patriots fell, 28-48.

Despite being first to find the endzone, and leading 6-0, after the first, the Patriots lost the lead in the second quarter and were unable to take the lead in the second half.

The Patriots were first to score with a 24-yard run by junior Creyo Koop. The two-point conversion attempt was no good and the Patriots led 6-0.

West Elk scored first in the second quarter, with a 6-yard run by Koop. The two-point conversion was good with a pass from Trent Haag to Uriah Tillapaugh. The Patriots led 14-0. However, Central Burden would then score three touchdowns, before the Patriots returned to the end-zone, to close out the half. West Elk’s Koop again found the end-zone with a 30-yard run. The two-point conversion attempt failed. West Elk trailed 20-22 at halftime.

West Elk was first to score in the third quarter, this time with a 5-yard run by Koop. The two-point conversion attempt by Koop was good and the Patriots tied the game at 22.

This would be the last touchdown by the Patriots and Burden would score four more before the game, with one in the third and three in the fourth.

The Patriots will travel to Sedan this Friday, September 22, to take on the Blue Devils. They will then host Flinthills on September 29, for their annual homecoming event. Kick-off for both games is slated for 7 p.m.
