Eureka Softball FellTo Chargers •To Compete In Lyndon Regional

Eureka Tornado softball faced the Chargers of Cherryvale for their final regular season game last Thursday, May 9.

In game one, the Tornadoes allowed 7 runs in the first, two in the third and one in the fifth. However, Eureka was not able to get anything going offensively as they only recorded one hit, a single from freshman Elle Coulter. Eureka lost the game 0-10.

Eureka again had difficulty keeping up with the Chargers in game two, as they suffered a 4-14 loss. The Lady Tornadoes were first to act though in the second game and added two runs in the first. Tornado sophomore Madelyn Miller lined out and Coulter singled, to each score one run. The lead was short-lived as Cherryvale recorded three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Tornadoes allowed two more runs in the third and six runs in the fifth.

Tornado junior Trinity Samuels lead Eureka with two hits in three at bats. Miley Baumgartel and Samuels each stole multiple bases, leading the team to a total of 7 stolen bases during the second game.

Recording hits for the Tornadoes were Samuels 2, Miller and Coulter 1 each. Scoring for Eureka were Samuels 3 and Baumgartel 1. The Tornadoes (#8, 4-12) were slated to face Southern Lyon County (#9, 4-14) on Monday of this week for a 2-1A Regional play-in game. The winner was slated to face Rosalia- Flinthills (#1, 14-8) on Monday, May 13, at 1:13 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to semi-final action on Tuesday, May 14, at 3 p.m., in Lyndon. The championship game will be held in Lyndon on Tuesday, at 6 p.m.
