Named Business Woman Of The Month

The guest was Sara Shivers, who was business woman of the month and she also provided the program for the meeting. Roll call was answered by, “Your favorite thing to do on Memorial Day weekend?”

The guest was Sara Shivers, who was business woman of the month and she also provided the program for the meeting. Roll call was answered by, “Your favorite thing to do on Memorial Day weekend?”

Minutes of the April meeting were given and approved as read. Treasurer’s report was given and approved as read.

Correspondence was received. A ‘thank you’ card was received from Jefferson Street Baptist Church for the donation to the Martha Strong memorial. A card was also received from the Martha Strong family and was passed around for everyone to read.

Discussion was had in regards to raising yearly dues to $20. Lois Stewart made a motion and Mary Ann Thornton seconded the motion, to raise dues. The club voted and the item passed.

No announcements were given.

Shivers, business woman of the month, was presented with a certificate. She grew up in the Severy area, formerly Sara Stephens. She and her husband Jay have two daughters, Stella and Margot. The couple owns the Salt Creek Farm, which includes a community market located next door to The Gym. Salt Creek Farm opened seven years ago. They have owned and operated the community market for three years. They are open Wednesdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday and Fridays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The website for the business is The Sa ltCreek Farm.com. Shivers provided the program for the evening. Salt Creek Farm sells all natural dry-aged beef, naturally raised chicken, lamb, pork and raw honey.

Shivers has been back living on her family farm for 9.5 years. She is a generational rancher and majored in Agriculture at K-State. They have five species of animals on their farm: cattle, sheep, goats, ducks and chickens. The farm is a cow-calf production operation. They sell meat to restaurants in Kansas City and Wichita, pastured black angus beef. In the market they sell meat products, market meals, loose leaf tea, cheese, popcorn, prairie cookies and ice cream.

The club sang ‘Happy Birthday” to those with May and summer birthdays.

Hostesses for the evening were Diana Cole and Tami Jackson.

The club closed with Club Collect.
