Eureka’s Kern Named State Champion

Two Eureka Junior/Senior High School students claimed hardware last Saturday, May 4, as they both placed in the top three at the State Forensics Contest, held at Bishop Carroll High School.

Two Eureka Junior/Senior High School students claimed hardware last Saturday, May 4, as they both placed in the top three at the State Forensics Contest, held at Bishop Carroll High School.

Senior Asher Kern claimed top honors in the Serious Solo category and was named State Champion. Kern also participated in Poetry and competed to semifinals.

Junior Natalynn Gulick placed third in Poetry. She also participated in Impromptu and competed to the semifinals.

Also representing Eureka was Shelby White, who competed in Prose.

Five West Elk High School students also competed at the state contest. Patriot Reghan Ervin placed eighth in Extemporaneous Speaking. Andruw Rodriquez placed ninth in Original Oration. Both Ervin and Rodriquez competed in the semifinals. Also representing the Patriots were Emma Arbuckle, 16th in Original Oration; Rodriquez and Kase Kill, 16th in Improvised Duet Acting; Rodriquez, 17th in Impromptu; and Kill and Savannah Stroot, 21st in Duet Acting.
