Three Individuals Escaped Serious Injuries In Separate Accidents Last Week

Three people were able to escape serious injuries after being involved in separate accidents last week.

The first accident, involving a semi and a passenger car, was reported at approximately 3:32 p.m. on Friday, May 3. The second and third accidents occurred on Sunday, May 5, just a short time from each other and in the same area, with both striking cattle that were in the roadway.

According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were dispatched to the 1300 Block of Highway 400, near Q Road, west of Severy, for a semi vs. car accident. When deputies ar-rived, they learned that a 2022 Freightliner driven by Mark Fraser, 62, of Missouri was sitting stationary awaiting construction personnel. Dylan James 20, of Enterprise, driving a 1997 Ford Mustang, failed to yield and struck the rear of the semi-trailer. James refused treatment for minor injuries.

First responders were dispatched on Sunday, around 9 p.m., to the 3300 block of Kansas Highway 99, approximately two and a half miles south of Madison, for the report of a single vehicle accident. Upon arrival, deputies learned that Jeramia Linden 44, of Hamilton was traveling northbound in his 2004 Toyota passenger car when he struck two bulls in the roadway. A short time later, a 2012 Toyota passenger car driven by Kimberly Benson, 57, of Hamilton was south bound and struck one of the injured cows. Linden was treated by EMS and later transported by family to Newman Regional Health in Emporia. Benson was not injured and drove her vehicle home.

Several head of cattle were out on Sunday evening, with two being fatally injured in the accidents. The cattle involved in this accident were not owned by the same owner as the accident that occurred in recent weeks.
