Regular Business Discussed At Weekly Commission Meeting

Jennifer Watts presented the weekly report for the Road and Bridge Department, on Monday, May 6, during the weekly meeting of the Greenwood County Commission. Watts shared that cleaning and removal of debris from roads and bridges continues. Though this is ongoing, everything is now passable. Watts noted that pertinent data was collected and provided to Emergency Management Director Levi Vinson for submission to FEMA. The county will then wait to see if work/debris created in recent weather events will be accepted for receipt of funding.

Health Department Director Vicki Lindsey presented an issue to commissioners for consideration. Lindsey noted that with a number of required conferences for the Health Department occurring within the spring and summer months, the department reaches their credit limit of $2,500 and asked that the limit be raised to $4,000 to accommodate the need. Lindsey noted during discussion that the department is often reimbursed for the required conference expenses through grant dollars, but upfront payment must be made. Commissioner Preston Evenson recommended an increase to $5,000. Commissioners approved the $5,000 credit limit.

Watts presented a prospective employment verification for the landfill. She noted that an interview had been conducted and the department was waiting for a call back. Verification for Jacob Stephey at a starting rate of $15 an hour was approved by commissioners. The department is waiting to hear back from him before determining an official start date.

Greenwood County Treasurer Donna Olson shared that her motor vehicle clerk had reached the 90-day employment mark. After sharing that the new hire will be completing Driver’s License training later this month, Olson requested increasing pay of Doris Decker by 50 cents to $16 an hour.

The Kenworth motor the county had rebuilt was inquired about in regards to an update. Legal Counsel Paul Dean noted he had not received an email from Road and Bridge. The county believes there should be a warranty on this item. This continues to be ongoing.

Minutes of the April 29 meeting were approved.

Special payables in the amount of $12,462.89 was approved.

The March fee report was reviewed.

A 10-minute executive session for personnel was requested by Commissioner Evenson. No decisions were made following the session.

A road viewing at Reece was slated to follow this week’s regular meeting. In regards to the road viewing, it was noted that there were two petitions regarding this area and individuals are wanting to avoid complete removal of access to the Obourn property and are wanting to close alleys and a portion of roadway.

The next meeting of the Greenwood County Commissioners will be held on Monday, May 13 at 9 a.m.
