Tornado Golf Placed Third At Humboldt Tournament

Eureka golfers competed at two tournaments last week and Tornadoes claimed hardware at both.

Here are the results from the Humboldt golf tournament at Iola. On Monday, April 29, the Tornadoes hosted a junior varsity scramble tournament where Eureka’s Mason Hughes and Easton Mead placed second at the event, shooting a 41. Soper and Haring of Circle won the tournament, finishing the nine-hole round one over par, with a 37. Eureka’s John Noll and Jonah Werner finished the round with a 48 and placed 10th.

On Tuesday, April 30, varsity team members traveled to Humboldt for an 18-hole tournament.

Eureka finished with a four-person team score of 474 to place third and two Tornado golfers finished in the top eight. Freshman Hughes placed sixth with a score of 103 and senior Cole Adkins placed eighth with a score of 105. Also participating for the Tornadoes were Mead, 16th, 120; and Werner, 25th, 146. Erie won the team trophy with a 403 and the individual contest was won by Kyle Eggers of Neodesha, who shot a 78.

Eureka was slated to compete at TVL action on Monday of this week, but the tournament was postponed due to weather. A rescheduled date was not yet determined as of press time. The Tornado golf team will be hosting 2A Regionals at the Eureka Country Club on Monday, May 13. Tee times are slated to begin at 9 a.m. Teams competing at the Eureka Regional include: Elbing-Berean Academy, Erie, Eureka, Hillsboro, Mound City-Jayhawk Linn, Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan, Sedan, Uniontown, Whitewater Remington and Wichita- The Independent.

The top three teams at each regional (four regional tournaments) and the top five lowest individual scores that are not members of a qualifying team will qualify for the state tournament. Class 2A State will be held at Mariah Hills Golf Course, in Dodge City on May 20-21.
