The Tornadoes picked up their first win last Thursday, May 2, when they claimed a 9-7 victory over the Wildcats of Yates Center, at home.
The Tornadoes tallied five runs in the first, off four hits, to take a 5-2 lead. To open the inning, Carl Biering singled with a fly ball to center. The bases were loaded after Dalton Pool singled and Tanner Biering walked. Those three would score off a double by Jean-Phillippe Guillaume.
In the second, both teams scored a single run. The Tornadoes scored with Guillaume, who went in as a courtesy runner after a double by Jakob Pool, stole third and home.
To cap off their scoring, the Tornadoes scored three additional runs in the third inning. Davian Damron stole home; Kaleb Hollis scored on a C. Biering pop fly single to center field; and Tristan Milner scored on a ground out to first.
Despite allowing three Wildcat runs over the next three innings, the Tornadoes held on to claim their first victory of the season, 9-7.
In game two, Eureka collected 17 hits in a high-scoring affair, but the Tornadoes came out on the bottom of a 12-25 game.
Eureka’s best offensive inning came in the fourth inning as D. Pool, T. Biering, Guillaume, Zach Heaton and Damron all crossed home plate. Claiming hits in that inning were D. Pool, single; T. Biering, triple; Guillaume, double; Damron, double; and Hollis, single.
The Tornadoes collected 17 hits during the game. T. Biering, Hollis and Guillaume each collected four, D. Pool recorded three hits and Damron and C. Biering each had one.

The Tornadoes were scheduled to host Fredonia on Monday of this week; however, the game was canceled due to forecasted weather/field conditions. The Tornadoes will begin prepping for 2-1A Regional action at Rosalia-Flinthills. The Tornadoes (#8/115) will face Wichita - The Independent (#9/0-23) on Wednesday, May 8, at 3 p.m., at Sedgwick, for a play-in game. The winner will advance to face Sedgwick (#1/19-3). The game will be held 25 minutes after the conclusion of the play-in game.
