Board members present included: Mike Mallek, Stuart Woodie, Dee Elliott, Kara Nutsch, Brad Martin and Shannon Spradlin. Others attending included: Superintendent Mike Ronen, Principal Stephanie Nelson, Clerk Claudia Deeder, Samantha Watts, Raestyn Watts, Elizabeth Freund, Brandi Freund, Allie Ebberts, Tisha Hershberger and Lisa Ballard.

President Mallek called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

Those in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

The agenda and consent agenda were approved as presented, as well as the bills, April regular meeting and special meeting minutes.

Principal Nelson showed all the activities going on including, SAFE vision goggles, donkey basketball, interventions, para-appreciation week, junior carnival and the solar eclipse.

Superintendent Ronen reported on Esser III covid funds, KDHE covid funds, Patterson grant, new music grant and SB73.

Freund was present to address the board with concerns about prom.

There was no staff input.

Superintendent Ronen was asked to look into the possibility of having a special board election. No action was taken.

The board approved the open enrollment/Open Grade Level Capacities Enrollment Grade Level Capacities as presented.

In new business, the board approved to pay $5,950 for the Kansas Association of School Boards for FY25 annual dues.

The board approved to allow the after-prom group to use the buses and the van for transportation to the after-prom in Emporia.

The board approved to hire Bill Duncan as the Summer Driver’s Education Program Instructor. The out-of-district students will pay $250 plus the $2 State of Kansas permit fee. The class will begin on June 24 or June 26.

The board approved the contract with Greenwood County Health Department for nursing services. The last day of school for students and staff was approved to move to May 21, per the negotiated agreement since not all snow days were used throughout the year.

The board held a 10-minute executive session to discuss certified staff evaluations, with Ronen and Nelson remaining. After returning to open session, the board approved the teacher evaluations as presented. The board also approved to hire of Emily Hamilton as the High School Language Arts teacher.

The board then held a five-minute executive session, to discuss items to be noticed in the negotiations. No action was taken.

The board then held a 10-minute executive session to discuss confidential student information pursuant, with Ronen and Nelson remaining. No action was taken.

Another executive session was held for personnel, to discuss Superintendent candidates for hire, with Ronen, Nelson, Deeder and Ballard remaining. No action was taken.

The meeting adjourned at 9:56 p.m.
