Eureka Honors Club Recognized Top Six Students At EHS

A total of 30 Eureka Junior Senior High School (EJSHS) students were honored last Wednesday, April 24, during the ninth annual Eureka Honors Club honors banquet. The top six students, based on grade point average, in the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior grade levels were recognized. A tie in the freshmen and sophomore classes resulted in nine students being honored.

A total of 30 Eureka Junior Senior High School (EJSHS) students were honored last Wednesday, April 24, during the ninth annual Eureka Honors Club honors banquet. The top six students, based on grade point average, in the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior grade levels were recognized. A tie in the freshmen and sophomore classes resulted in nine students being honored.

The annual event was held at EJSHS. Eureka’s FCA sponsor and Eureka Honors Club member Shelly Hoyt gave the invocation. Club members, honorees and guests were introduced.

Kathleen McKenzie, a former Eureka Kiwanis Club student, was the featured speaker for the evening. McKenzie graduated from EJSHS in 2010. She attended the University of Kansas where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish in 2014. McKenzie then attended Kansas City University where she earned a master’s degree in Medical Biosciences in 2016. In 2020, she graduated from Oklahoma City University with a master’s of Physician Assistant Studies and in 2022 she completed a postgraduate Physician’s Assistant residency program, specializing in emergency medicine at John’s Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Md. She is currently working as an emergency medicine PA-C in multiple emergency departments in the Oklahoma City metro area. She is the daughter of Jay and Nancy McKenzie.
