Amended Complaint Charges Severed In Wallace Case

With a jury trial about a month away, the Greenwood County District Court held a motion to sever hearing for the William Dee Wallace felony case, on Monday of this week to discuss various items, including the defendant’s wish to sever the three additional charges that were added in an amended complaint on March 21.

With a jury trial about a month away, the Greenwood County District Court held a motion to sever hearing for the William Dee Wallace felony case, on Monday of this week to discuss various items, including the defendant’s wish to sever the three additional charges that were added in an amended complaint on March 21.

The amended complaint included the original charges of Rape and Aggravated criminal sodomy; but, added Child endangerment x2 and Cruelty to animals.

The defense filed the motion to sever on April 1 and noted that the amended complaint came more than a year after the original charges were filed in January 2023. Judge Jan Satterfield noted that at this point, the additional charges could create a prejudicial effect and ultimately granted the motion to sever.

Litigation continued between counsel on other items that are expected to arise at trial with Judge Satterfield giving direction and noting that, although items might come up at the time of trial, she would like for all items to be handled beforehand.

Additional motions are expected to be filed, with the court scheduling another motions hearing for Monday, May 6, at 9 a.m.

The jury trial is slated to begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21.
