How involved can you be? Although there is a limit to the amount that one can stretch themselves, there are many groups and/or organizations that are seeking members. From organization looking to plan community events to school site councils just seeking feedback, there are many ways that you can give back to your community.
You can be as involved as you would like in almost any group. Sometimes this requires dedication of time, ideas or even just being a body to assist with events. Then there are groups that simply need you for input. Both Marshall Elementary and Eureka Junior/ Senior High School have site councils where community members and parents/guardians gather with teachers/staff to discuss curriculum used, assessments, accreditation, facility updates and so much more. This allows parents/guardians the opportunity to collaborate and advocate for their students and the school. All are welcome to attend these meetings to learn and share ideas about building facilities, teacher projects, accreditation, classroom environments, schoolwide assessments, upcoming events, curriculum, building-wide student leadership, etc. Site council meetings usually last between 30 minutes to one hour, and are held three times throughout the school year. Marshall Elementary held their first meeting a few weeks ago and plan to have another in November. The Eureka Junior/Senior High School will have their first Site Council meeting of the 2023-24 school year this Wednesday at 6 p.m. For more information on site council, please reach out to me or either school principal (Marshall: Stacy Coulter or EJSHS: Angie Lowe).
If you’re looking to get involved with community events, a few quick options include: Eureka Area Chamber of Commerce (Steve Brown); Myreka (Jamie Lindamood); Lions Club (Sandy Dickerson); Eureka Honors Club (Robin Wunderlich); Eureka Safe Night After Prom (Lexie Biering); Eureka Booster Club (Christina Scott); Marshall Elementary PTA (Beth Whitehead); and so many more options. If you’re looking to assist in some way, reach out to the names above (or even look at various group/organization articles throughout the paper and who they are submitted by) and see if it would be the right fit.
We are all busy; but, many hands make light work. How can you help your community succeed?
