Pam Cowley

Pamela Lou “Pam” (Huntington) Cowley of Eureka, died on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, at the age of 82. She was born on January 1, 1941, in Eureka, the daughter of Samuel Alfred and Phyllis Mae (Denchfield) Huntington. She was raised in Wichita and Eureka, graduating from Eureka High School with the Class of 1959. Following graduation, she moved to Emporia where she attended college at Emporia State Teacher’s College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. It was there she met her future husband, John Cowley. Following graduation, they were married. To this union, two sons were born. The couple moved to Hiawatha for 3 years, then to Paola where she was a homemaker. In 1969, they moved to Eureka. In 1980 she went back to work and was the librarian at Mulberry Elementary, until she retired in the mid 2000s.

She was very active in the community. She was a member of the Greenwood County Cattlewomen’s Association, P.E.O., Greenwood County Hotel restoration group, the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, Eureka United Methodist Women, and sang in the church choir.

Pam is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Lance Cowley and wife, Tonya of El Dorado; and Craig Cowley and wife, Lyn Huffaker of Topeka; four grandchildren: Trevis, Samantha, Peyton, and Carson; 3 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and five step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, September 18, 2023, at Locust Lawn Farms, 1076 River Rd., Eureka, with Rev. Kenneth Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka. Visitation hours were from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
