With the help of a grant and community members, CrossWinds Counseling & Wellness, located at 905 N. Main Street, in Eureka, will soon add a community playground.

The community playground will be installed to the west of their location on Main Street, with crews breaking ground on Monday, April 1. The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office has joined forces with CrossWinds and is assisting in locating contractors to expand the area to better serve the community. With the help of B.E. Mowing and Tree Service LLC, trees have been removed from the area to prepare for the installation of the equipment. The Eureka Recreation Commission has agreed to provide two full-size basketball hoops, as well as a short goal for younger youth to utilize on the court that is being poured. See related article. Sheriff Heath Samuels continues to work to find ways for potential additions to the park area, including the possibility of adding covered outdoor seating and outdoor lighting.

“We are excited about this coming together, not just for those we serve, but for the community as a whole,” stated Jade Fankhauser, CrossWinds Greenwood County Manager. “When CrossWinds can be a part of offering healthy activities like this to the community, we inch closer to breaking the stigma of mental health. We are blessed to have so many caring and great people in our community and are excited to see these be put to use,” she stated.

“This project couldn’t be a reality without Lucas Moody, CrossWinds Director of Development and Logistics, and his team applying for grants and having various conversations to meet the needs for our agency and community,” Fankhauser concluded.

Installation of the playground equipment is expected to be completed, weather permitting, by the end of the week.
