EJSHS Sophomore Injured In Rollover Accident

A Eureka Junior/Senior High School student was critically injured last Friday, March 29.

Harlie Owings, 16, of Eureka was heading to track and field practice last Friday when the vehicle she was driving northbound on L Road lost control, entered the east ditch and rolled before coming to a stop.

According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, Greenwood County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had been wrecked and was sitting in a field, approximately one mile south of US 54 Highway on L Road, at approximately 10:36 p.m.

Upon arrival, Deputies located a 2008 GMC Acadia registered to Nikole Tackett of Eureka. It appeared the vehicle was traveling northbound on L road when it lost control. The vehicle came to a rest approximately 75 feet off the roadway. Deputies located the female juvenile in the vehicle, Greenwood County EMS was called and Deputies rendered first aid until EMS arrived.

H. Owings was transported to Greenwood County Hospital, in critical condition, by Greenwood County EMS. She was later transferred to Via Christi-St. Francis in Wichita, where she was treated for her injuries. According to her father, Greggory Owings, H. Owings was released from the hospital over the weekend and is recovering at home.
