Howard City Council

Mayor Richard Clark called the March 4 Howard City Council meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. with council members Martin Hunter, Shilo Crupper, Derek Cookson, Gary Harrod and Jerrad Pope present. Also present was Ian Denton, Danny Banks, Sarah Evans and Joanna Hunter.

The Feb. 20 minutes were approved.

Denton, with Double C Insurance, presented the renewal for City Insurance and explained the required and suggested changes. The council approved changing the Linebacker deductible to $5,000 and renew the policy. Carried 5-0. Denton will send a revised list of values and premiums to the office with the invoice.

Proposals and prices were discussed for moving city-owned emergency generators to make better use of the assets. The council approved to hire Banks to unhook the lake generator and re-hook it at the Cox Building. The City will arrange to pour a concrete pad at the new location and then schedule moving the unit.

The council approved: the payment of city bills at $75,043.48; disbursing State Aid received reference KSA 75-2556 of $157.98 to the City Library; the City Clerk attending the KMU conference; the purchase of door springs and cables for the shop building; to place port-apots and dumpsters at the lake from April to October; to schedule the spring City wide cleanup for June 8; approve the 2024 Gambler 500 event to be at the Howard City Lake April 26 to 28; and to get 1.5” road rock delivered to the Other discussion: Emergency sirens; searching for grants on city projects specifically lake bathhouse; future street improvements; vandalism at Southpark.

The meeting adjourned at 8:36 p.m. The council also met on March 18. The next scheduled meeting for the Howard City Council is Monday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m.
