Hamilton USD 390 Board Of Education

President Mike Mallek called the March 13 Hamilton USD 390 meeting to order at 7 p.m. Other board members present included Stuart Woodie, Dee Elliott, Brad Martin, Kara Nutsch and Shannon Spradlin. Others attending were Superintendent Mike Ronen, Principal Stephanie Nelson and Clerk Claudia Deeder. Lisa Ballard attended remotely.

President Mike Mallek called the March 13 Hamilton USD 390 meeting to order at 7 p.m. Other board members present included Stuart Woodie, Dee Elliott, Brad Martin, Kara Nutsch and Shannon Spradlin. Others attending were Superintendent Mike Ronen, Principal Stephanie Nelson and Clerk Claudia Deeder. Lisa Ballard attended remotely.

Board members and others in attendance participated in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Woodie moved and Elliott seconded to approve the agenda. The vote was 6-0, motion carried.

Elliott moved and Martin seconded to approve the consent agenda which included the minutes of the regular meeting held Feb. 14, minutes from the special board meetings held on Feb. 26, March 6 and March 7, treasurer’s report, list of warrants, activity fund reports, and the petty cash fund report. The vote was 6-0, motion carried.

Principal Nelson gave an update noting that the greenhouse is estimated to be completed by April 15. The state has approved three ag pathways, and the FFA chapter application has been turned in. She shared the following upcoming activities: Arabia Steamboat Museum 3rd-6th grade, April 1; Pre-K screening, April 4; Roar family fun night cookout, April 11; and Spring concert April 17.

Superintendent Ronen gave an update on KESA.

There was no patron of staff input.

No action was taken following the discussion of a new board member or the open enrollment draft.

In new business, Nutsch moved and Martin seconded to approve the FY25 calendar. The vote was 6-0, motion carried.

Following a 10-minute executive session, to discuss certified staff contracts, with the board, Superintendent Ronen and Principal Nelson, the board accepted Samantha Watts’ resignation effective at the end of the school year; to hire Rick Ginter as the new Pre-K through 12 Physical Education teacher for FY25; and to hire Peyton Powell as the new fifth and sixth-grade elementary teacher for FY25.

A 15-minute executive session was held regarding employee-employer negotiations with the board, Superintendent Ronen and Principal Nelson. No action was taken.

Following a five-minute executive session for student matters, the board approved two outof- district students who were recommended by administration.

The board held a onehour executive session to discuss Superintendent candidates for hire, with Ronen, Nelson, Clerk Deeder and Ballard. The vote was 6-0, motion carried. No action was taken.

The meeting adjourned at 9:21 p.m.

The Hamilton USD 390 Board of Education meets on the second Wedesday of the month at 7 p.m.
