Three Area Wrestlers Claimed State Hardware

Three Area wrestlers claimed hardware at the USAWKS 2024 State Folkstyle Championship over the weekend, as they finished in the top six of their weight class.

Three Area wrestlers claimed hardware at the USAWKS 2024 State Folkstyle Championship over the weekend, as they finished in the top six of their weight class.

Eureka Wrestling Club’s (EWC) Brynlee Ashlock went 4-2 at the tournament. She fell in the quarterfinals, but worked her way up the backside of the bracket to place fifth in the 10U Girls 60 weight bracekt. She won by fall over Kaylynn Dole (Norton) (Fall 1:58); lost by fall to Kenzli Mason (Central Heights Viking Wrestling Club) (Fall 1:35); won a 9-1 major decision over Rosalie Landrum (El Dorado); won by forfeit over Nyliah Dinkel (Russell); lost by fall to Emma Vaughan (Bonner Springs Wrestling Club) (Fall 0:22); and won a 7-4 decision over Kenzli Mason (Central Heights Viking Wrestling Club). She is a fourth grader at Marshall Elementary School in Eureka. She is the daughter of Kylie Ashlock of Eureka and Shane Ashlock of Neal.

EWC’s Mason Hughes placed sixth in the High School boys 100 pound division. He lost by fall to Trenton Grimm (Cherryvale) (Fall 2:58); won by fall over Trapper Boren (Iola) (Fall 4:05); lost a 5-9 decision to Hunter Warczakoski (Bonner Springs Wrestling Club) and lost by fall to Trenton Grimm (Cherryvale) (Fall 1:26). He is a freshman at Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EJSHS). He is the son of Bryan and Kelli Hughes of rural Eureka.

Elk County Wrestling club member Emma Baumgartel lost her opening match but battled her way to the placing matches, earning a fourth place finish in the 12U Girls 95 division. She lost an 0-11 major decision to Kenzie Nondorf (Hoxie Kids); won by fall over Ezmeralda Lopez (Junction City) (Fall 3:59); won by fall over Illeana Toney (Trailblazer Wrestling Club) (Fall 2:05); won a 10-0 major decision over Rheamy Rierson (MAC); won a 7-2 decision in tie breaker - 1 over Aliyah Tangpricha (WR-Topeka Blue Thunder) (TB-1 7-2); and lost a 0-4 decision to Alayah Losey (Team of Hard Knox) won by decision over Emma Baumgartel (Elk County). She is a seventh grader at EJSHS. She is the daughter of Jerrid and Jessica Baumgartel of Severy.
