Empower House Ministries announced that it will serve men from Lyon and surrounding counties with a new recovery residence. Empower House opened a recovery residence for female addicts in February of 2022 and will provide the same services and empowering programs for male addicts starting in October 2023. The new recovery residence will double the current residential capacity.
Most addicts relapse while residing in the same drug-infested environment, so Empower House provides life-changing recovery residences and comprehensive programs to empower addicts to beat addiction, thrive, and become self-sufficient. The overall mission of the organization is to:
• Provide addicts with stable and empowering housing while pursuing long-term recovery.
• Teach residents essential life skills (budgeting, job search, health, relationships, self-identity, etc.) while providing structure, accountability, support, and the tools needed for drastic lifestyle changes.
The new recovery residence for men will be located in Emporia. The ministry has executed a lease for a five-bedroom, two-bath home with a twoyear option to buy. The board intends to rent while fundraising efforts are underway for the purchase. Two weeks ago, the Executive Director was notified that they were awarded a sizable grant from Kansas Fights Addiction (opioid settlement with pharmaceutical companies). The grant will allow operations for men to begin quickly while renting the home and will later provide a down payment to purchase the home. The exact time frame for the purchase depends on the effectiveness of fundraising.
