After observing a left hand lane violation last Friday, March 1, a Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a passenger car, approximately six miles east of the Butler/Greenwood County line; however, the vehicle failed to stop and a chase ensued.

According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle led deputies into Elk County where the suspect slammed on the vehicle’s brakes causing the Greenwood County deputy to rear-end the vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle entered the west ditch where it came to rest, near Rock Road on Highway 99.

The driver fled on foot and the passenger was taken into custody.

With the assistance of the Eureka Fire Department (who utilized a drone), the suspect was located hiding in a tree line several hundred yards away from the scene. The driver was taken into custody. Elk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies also assisted.

The driver, Bailey Cargile, 32, of Independence; and her passenger, Owen Solomen 24, of Washington State, were taken to the Greenwood County Jail on numerous charges including possession of drugs with intent to distribute, no drug tax stamp and different traffic violations.

Both Cargile and Solomen were expected to have their first appearance hearings on Tuesday of this week.

Additional details on the charges can be found on page 6 of this week’s edition.
