Nine Elk County Wrestling (ECW) club members punched their ticket to the state contest this weekend in Topeka, as they placed in the top four at the District 2 Championships held in Mulvane last Saturday, March 2.
Five Cobras were named runners-up in their weight divisions: Hendrix Ellsbury, Pyper Ford, Lakin Love, Haylee Knight and Kayla Wright. ECW’s Emma Baumgartel placed third and Cobras Autumn Love, Kyler Wunderlich and Kinzie Church placed fourth.
Following are the individual match wins for ECW participants: 8U Girls 45: Hendrix Ellsbury placed 2nd. She won a 15-4 major decision over Maci Duncan (South Central Punisher); won a 10-2 major decision over Kayslen Sawyer (Red Devil); and won by forfeit over Quinn Edison (Wichita Blue Knights).
10U Girls 70: Autumn Love placed 4th. She won a 3-0 decision over Brynn Wolken (Red Devil).
10U Girls 100: Pyper Ford placed 2nd. She won a 4-2 decision over Lillian Waltermire (Red Devil); won an 11-0 major decision over Kendall Jaquess (Neodesha); and won a 9-7 decision over Cali Driskill (Iron Grapplers). 10U 70: Maverick Ford won a 9-6 decision over Gehrig Stenstrom (Parsons); won an 8-0 major decision over Adler Chase (Mulvane); and won a 10-4 decision over Colin Zimmerman (Wichita Wrestling Club).
10U 79: Kash Bidwell placed 5th. He won a 16-0 tech fall over Grayson Middleton (Iron Grapplers); won a 16-0 tech fall over Lincoln Lira (Wellington); won by fall over Za`Aurby Paschall (Ark City) (Fall 1:33); and won a 6-3 decision over Gehrig Winterburg (Carroll).
10U 120: Raylan Wunderlich placed 5th. He won by fall over Jacob Byrd (Labette) (Fall 1:41); and won a 3-0 decision over Kyle Nance (Brawlers).
10U 130: Kyler Wunderlich placed 4th. He won by fall over Rayuell Porter (Team of Hard Knox) (Fall 0:21); and won a 6-0 decision over Tyler Brisbin (Parsons).
12U Girls 90: Kinzie Church placed 4th.
12U Girls 95: Lakin Love placed 2nd. She won by fall over Lilliana Grant (Maize) (Fall 2:41); and won by fall over Kylie Logan (South Central Punisher) (Fall 3:33).
12U Girls 95: Emma Baumgartel placed 3rd. She won by fall over Cadence Black (Maize) (Fall 2:07); won by fall over Lilliana Grant (Maize) (Fall 3:36); and won a 4-0 decision over Cadence Black (Maize).
12U Girls 130: Haylee Knight placed 2nd. She won a 4-3 decision over Molly Tra (Carroll); and won a 9-3 decision over Emersynn Allen (Fredonia).
14U 175: Landon Wunderlich placed 5th. He won by fall over Nathaniel Huff (Wichita Wrestling Club) (Fall 4:16); and won a 12-0 major decision over Aydin Haworth (Bluestem).
High School Girls 125: Kayla Wright placed 2nd. She won by forfeit over Aubrey Winegarner (Wichita Blue Knights); won by fall over Maela Neill (Eureka) (Fall 2:08); and won a 7-1 decision over Caitlin Van Praag (Derby).
Also wrestling for the Elk County Cobras was Riggin McGee, 10U 79.
