Eureka vs. Kansas City Christian In the semifinal game of the sub-state championship, Eureka faced the Prairie Village Kansas City Christian Panthers in Pleasanton. Both teams fought hard for the victory, but Eureka secured the 4433 win over Kansas City to advance to the sub-state championship for the seventh consecutive year.

Mongeau caught Winfrey driving to the basket for Eureka’s first score. Winfrey nailed the triple at the wing on the following offensive possession. Unstoppable on both offense and defense, Winfrey stole the ball in the lane and fired it down the court to Mongeau for two points in transition. Prairie Village finally got on the board with a threepoint basket. By the end of the first quarter, Eureka had the 7-3 lead.

Winfrey kicked off the second quarter with a free throw. Both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net for the first couple of minutes. Westerman drew another foul, this time on a shot, and made one of the free throws. Mongeau drained a trey from the corner, assisted by Winfrey. The Panthers were still unable to respond until late in the quarter, after earning six points on backto- back possessions. A shot from the free throw line by Mongeau ended Prairie Village’s 4 point run and concluded the scoring for the first half. At the buzzer, the Tornadoes led 16-7.

The first three points of the half came from the Tornadoes, another free throw from Mongeau and a shot from the elbow by Winfrey. Prairie Village was quick to match it with a 6-0 run. The two teams traded baskets back and forth for the remainder of the quarter, Eureka winning 31-17 by the end.

They routed the Eagles, winning 60-26 to punch their ticket to the state tournament for the second year in a row and for the third time in school history.

Throughout the second quarter, the Tornadoes would complete short runs, thriving in transition. At the halftime buzzer, Eureka had the lead over Maranatha 38-12.

The halftime break didn’t change the momentum. Eureka came out with two points on the opening possession from Rucker. Maranatha answered with a field goal of their own.
