2024 Eureka Chapter Members Of The National Honor Society

A total of 12 Eureka Junior/ Senior High School students were inducted to the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society last Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Those students being inducted for 2024 were: seniors Makyla Gore and Banff Perkins; juniors Kiyra Carpenter, Corinne Nelson and Laken Valentine and sophomores Lydia Mason, Madelyn Miller, TJ Mills, Britta Mongeau, Ava Noble, Hannah Perrier and Alaina Westerman.

Following a candle ceremony, the new inductees read the pledge and signed into the Eureka chapter.

To be inducted into the National Honor Society, students must be sophomores, junior or seniors and apply for the honor through SeƱora Hall.

Students must maintain a required 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA. Staff members who have had candidates in grades 9-12 are given a rubric to rate the candidate in the areas of character and leadership. Each student must have a minimum of five rubrics, or it goes to the NHS Committee for final selection.

When all the candidates have been rated and the score sheets returned, the scores are averaged and placed on the candidate master checklist. Those candidates who receive an average rating below 4.0 rounded to the nearest tenth in the area of character and leadership will be denied acceptance. The rating rubrics for each candidate are available for viewing by the candidate and/or their parent/ guardian upon request.

Those candidates, who submitted an essay that meets the requirements, have 4.0 rubric ratings for leadership and character, and a 3.4 or higher cumulative grade point average will gain membership into the National Honor Society.
