Madison Basketball Split With Wichita Home School

Bulldog basketball played at home last Monday, Feb. 19 where they faced the Wichita Home School (WHS) Warriors.

Bulldog basketball played at home last Monday, Feb. 19 where they faced the Wichita Home School (WHS) Warriors.

Bulldog boys trailed from the first quarter, down by ten as they headed to the second period, 7-17. Stronger offense in the second quarter resulted in the Bulldogs putting up 17 points. They were still out-shot by the Warriors who tallied 20 before the half. At the buzzer, Madison trailed 24-37. Twelve points from both teams in the third quarter saw the Bulldogs heading to the final quarter 36-49. Madison fell, 74-54.

Scoring for the Bulldogs were: Colton Isch 20, Lane Darbro 19, Lane Smith 5, Gannon Pyle and Octavian Dean with 4 points each and Cade Hurlburt with 2 points.

Following the first two quarters where nearly half of their points came from the foul line, the Lady Bulldogs gained momentum in the third quarter.

After trailing by 7 at halftime, Madison was up 33-32 at the end of the 3rd quarter, taking a narrow lead to the final period of play. The Bulldog girls came back to win 45-37 over WHS.

Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were: Jalynn Weakley 24, Sadie Albert 8, Jenna Thomsen 6, Caylin Luthi 4 and Candice Ashlock with 3 points.

Class 1A Division I Sub-State kicked-off for the boys Thursday of last week, where Madison faced Yates Center. Bulldog Girls were slated to face the Wildcats of Yates Center for round one of Sub-State on Friday.
