The West Elk boys basketball team traveled to Central-Burden last week where they faced the Raiders in their final regular season match-up.
West Elk outscored the Raiders in the first quarter, 9-6; but, Central- Burden would claim the next three quarters. At halftime, the Patriots were down 13-15. West Elk had their best scoring in the third quarter with 12, but their deficit increased by four. With one quarter remaining, the Patriots trailed 2531. As the fourth quarter buzzer sounded, the score was 32-43. Scoring for West Elk were Maddex Moreno 15, Martin Shipley 7,Uriah Tillapaugh 5, Trent Haag 3, and Roman Moreno 2.
The Patriots ended their regular season with a 13-7 record and were seeded fifth in the Cherokee-Southeast Sub-State tournament.
West Elk boys basketball will travel to Sedan (#4, 13-7) on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the semi-finals on Friday, March 1, TBD, at Cherokee-Southeast. The boys championship game will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the 2A State Tournament in Dodge City, March 6-9.
