Tornadoes Fell To Olpe Eagles

The Eureka High School boys finished their regular season with a 33-57 loss at Olpe on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The Tornadoes experienced shooting woes that hadn’t plagued them recently but, especially in the first half, led to the lopsided loss. The Tornadoes hit on only 16 shots from the field out of 63 taken. Most of the shots were open looks at the basket but they just didn’t fall.

Additionally, the Olpe defense forced the Tornadoes to commit 20 turnovers, the first time in several games the Tornadoes were that careless with the ball. The Tornado defense played well, but the bigger and faster Eagles managed to eventually get open for easy looks. The Tornadoes also lost the rebounding battle 25-39, again the result of the size of the various Eagle’s players.

Senior Lyle Perrier once again led the Tornadoes in scoring with 9 points, while junior Laken Valentine continued his recent scoring burst with 8. Seniors Jace Nixon and Cole Adkins had 5 and 4 points respectively, while junior Tanner Biering added 3. Sophomore T. J. Mills and freshman Easton Mead had 2 points each to round out the scoring for the Tornadoes.

The junior varsity boys also battled the Eagles, falling 46-48.
