Three Eureka Tornadoes traveled to Salina last week for the three-day state wrestling tournament. Eureka was represented by seniors Lyndsey Escareno and Makyla Gore and freshman Mason Hughes.

Escareno made her fourth state appearance and claimed her fourth state medal. She claimed sixth place in the 140-pound weight class. She placed fourth at the 4-1A State Tournament last year, in the 140-pound weight class, placed fourth during her sophomore year and sixth during her freshman year, both in the 143-pound weight class. She is the first Lady Tornado to claim four state medals and is also the first Lady Tornado to claim 100 career wins. She finished her career with a 110-27 overall record, with 96 of those wins being recorded as pins.

Gore made her second state appearance. She also advanced to the state tournament during her sophomore year.

Freshman Hughes made his first state appearance.

Following are the match results for Eureka participants:

3-2-1A 106: Mason Hughes (13-23) lost by fall to Tate Blackwill (Quinter) 35-6 (Fall 1:47); and lost a 4-9 decision to Jackson Jacobs (Sabetha) 29-16.

Girls 4-1A 140: Lyndsey Escareno (23-8) placed 6th. She won by fall over Marissa Caray (McLouth HS) 2213 (Fall 1:23); won by fall over Zoey Jantz (Cimarron HS) 27-13 (Fall 0:53); lost a 4-8 decision to Destiny Gonzalez (Goodland) 34-6 (Dec 8-4); lost a 0-2 decision to Nora Prather (Baldwin High School) 34-6 (Dec 2-0); and lost by fall to Camryn Mather (Paola) 34-7 (Fall 4:04).

Girls 4-1A 170: Makyla Gore (20-6) lost by fall to Hannah Simmers (Effingham- Atchison County Community) 25-10 (Fall 5:05); and lost by fall to Lauren Canny (Johnson- Stanton County HS) 20-10 (Fall 0:45).
