Lady Tornadoes Claimed 14th Victory Of The Season

In their final home game of the Tri-Valley League (TVL) season, the Eureka Lady Tornadoes hosted the Erie Red Devils on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The Lady Tornadoes controlled the game from start to finish, getting a 47-16 lead at halftime that rolled into their fourteenth victory.

Erie threw the first punch, winning the tip and converting it into two for the first lead of the game. Eureka took the lead right back after Laynie Winfrey drained the three-point basket on the wing, assisted by Brenna Rucker. The basket kicked off a 13-0 run and the Tornadoes never looked back.

Eureka had the 31-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. A scoring spree by the Lady Tornadoes in the second quarter put them up at half, 47-16.

The visiting team scored the first points of the second half off a three-pointer. The Tornadoes came right back with an and-1 play by Alaina Westerman. The Red Devils had another shot from behind the arc before Eureka snuck in a 6-0 run. Hannah Perrier made an appearance after knocking down a pair of free throws and securing an offensive putback. Rucker nailed a corner trey to wrap up Eureka’s scoring column in the third quarter, 65-27.

Eureka scored another four points in the final quarter of play. The final buzzer announced a 70-31 victory for the Tornadoes.

Rucker 27, Winfrey 14, Britta Mongeau 9, Elle Coulter 5, Kimber Ptacek, Westerman and Perrier 4, and Lydia Mason 3.

REBOUNDS:

Rucker 13, Ptacek 8, Winfrey 6, Perrier and Madelyn Miller 4 and Westerman and Mongeau 3.

ASSISTS: Winfrey 8 and Rucker 5. STEALS: Winfrey 7, and Ptacek and Rucker 3.

Up Next

The Tornadoes played at Olpe Monday night to finish out their regular season. They will now prepare for sub-state next week. The Lady Tornadoes will host their opening round of Sub-State action, on Monday Feb. 26. Class 2A sub-state seeding will be released Wednesday, Feb. 21. Semifinals and finals will be played at Pleasanton. Semifinals for girls will be held on Thursday with finals being held on Saturday, March 2 at 5 p.m.
