West Elk senior Kayla Wright earned her spot at the 4-1A Girls State Wrestling tournament next week and will be the first Lady Patriot to compete at the state contest.

In just the second year of competing at regionals, Wright made history for the Patriots as she placed fourth at the Columbus Regionals last Saturday. She went 3-2 in the 125-pound weight class.

Wright will face Gabrielle Koppes of Clay Center Community (32-0) for her opening match at state. The 4-1A girls state tournament will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22.

The Lady Patriots were also represented at the Columbus Regional by Marisa Ghramm.
