West Elk boys basketball went 2-1 last week as they defeated Bluestem and Udall before falling to Caldwell on Friday, Feb. 9.

West Elk boys basketball went 2-1 last week as they defeated Bluestem and Udall before falling to Caldwell on Friday, Feb. 9.

The Patriots traveled to Bluestem last Monday, Feb. 5 for a make-up game.

The Patriots took a 3-point advantage to the second quarter where West Elk increased their advantage before going to halftime, 3829. West Elk out-scored the Eagles by one in the third quarter, tallying 14 points to go 52-42. The Patriots took home the win, concluding the game 73-53. Scoring for West Elk were: Maddex Moreno 27, Uriah Tillapaugh 20, Martin Shipley 9, Garett Usry and Trent Haag with 7 each and Kase Kill with 3 points.

Patriot boys defended their home court last Tuesday, Feb. 6, where they faced off against the Udall Eagles.

West Elk trailed by one at the end of the first quarter. Udall’s advantage was short-lived. Second quarter scoring resulted in a Patriot lead, teams sitting 18-13 at the half. As they headed to the final quarter, West Elk held a 9-point advantage, 36-27. At the final buzzer, the Patriots claimed the win, 52-36. Scoring for West Elk were: Tillapaugh 18, Shipley 13, Moreno 9, Haag 6, Usry 5 and Kill with 1 point.

West Elk traveled to Caldwell last Friday, where the Patriots trailed after the first 9-14, at half 20-25 and went into the final quarter down 28-44. The Patriots were unable to overcome the deficit and fell to Caldwell 44-58. Scoring for the Patriots were Uriah Tillapaugh 13, Martin Shipley 11, Garett Usry 10, Maddex Moreno 4 and Roman Moreno 3.
