Defeated The Wildcats Of Marmaton Valley/Fell To Yates Center Wildcats

The Lady Tornado high school volleyball team came out strong last Tuesday, September 5, at home, defeating the Wildcats of Marmaton Valley, in two sets. But, the Tornadoes didn’t have the same result against the Yates Center Wildcats and fell in a tough backand- forth battle.

The Lady Tornado high school volleyball team came out strong last Tuesday, September 5, at home, defeating the Wildcats of Marmaton Valley, in two sets. But, the Tornadoes didn’t have the same result against the Yates Center Wildcats and fell in a tough backand- forth battle.

Against Marmaton Valley, the Lady Tornadoes won 25-18 and 26-24. Scoring for the Tornadoes were Laynie Winfrey 8, Aven Sanchez 6, Raylee Boles and Elle Coulter each with 4, Alaina Westerman 3 and Trinity Samuels 2. The team recorded 7 kills, with Hannah Perrier leading Eureka with 3. Coulter had 2 and Madelyn Miller and Winfrey each tallied 1. One solo block was recorded for the Tornadoes against the Wildcats of Marmaton Valley, by Winfrey. As a team, Eureka recorded 5 assists with Boles leading with 3 and Westerman and Coulter each having 1. With 9 digs, Samuels led the Tornadoes. Also recording digs for Eureka were Coulter 4, Boles, Lydia Mason, Sanchez and Westerman all with 2 and Miller and Winfrey each with 1.

The Tornadoes fell in the opening set against Yates Center, 20-25; but, battled in the second set and won 27-25, forcing a third. Eureka fell short, 22-25, and lost the match. Scoring for Eureka were Sanchez 10, Boles 8, Winfrey 4, Samuels 3, Coulter 2 and Westerman with 1. With kills, Miller led the way with 5, Sancehz and Winfrey each had 4, Perrier and Coulter each with 3 and Samuels 1. Solo blocks were recorded by Winfrey 4 each, Perrier 3 and Samuels 1. Boles and Coulter each recorded 4 assists. Westerman tallied 3 and Miller and Sanchez each had 2. The team recorded 48 digs, with Samuels having 14, Sanchez 9, Mason and Coulter each with 7, Boles 5, Winfrey 4 and Miller and Westerman each with 1.

The junior varsity Tornadoes defeated both Wildcat teams in two sets: Marmaton Valley, 25-11 and 25-8; Yates Center 25-16 and 25-15.

Eureka hosted their annual tournament on Saturday of this week. See related article. They will travel to Marion this Saturday. September 16, with matches slated to begin at 9 a.m.
