The West Elk Patriots traveled to Sedan last Tuesday, Jan. 30 where both teams walked away with wins.
The Lady Patriots had a slow start offensively in the first half. Despite their slow start and early issues with fouling, West Elk hung with Sedan, sitting 15-15 at halftime. A strong Patriot defense in the second half led to forced turnovers and a five-point lead at the end of the third quarter, West Elk heading to the final period 24-19. “We didn’t give up and played hard and ended the night with a win,” shared Head Coach Alyssa Howard. The Lady Patriots claimed a 36-29 win over Sedan. Scoring for West Elk were: Makaila Gillespie 14, Jaicey Tillapaugh 10, Briea McGee 6, Nevaeh Tillapaugh 4 and Millie Koop with 2 points.
West Elk boys also got off to a slow start last Tuesday, trailing Sedan by six after the first quarter. Second quarter action warmed up, West Elk knocking down 9 shots to claim the lead, 27-25. The Patriots tallied 12 points early in the second half to pull ahead further, Sedan trailing 39-32. At the buzzer, the Patriots claimed the win, 59-47. Scoring for West Elk were: Uriah Tillapaugh 21, Maddex Moreno 20, Kase Kill and Martin Shipley with 6 points each, Garett Usry 4 and Jaxson Bogdahn with 2 points.
