Five Patriots claimed hardware at the annual Fredonia Invitational, on Saturday, Jan. 27. Patriot junior Creyo Koop claimed first at the tournament and also earned his fourth “Wrestlers of the Tournament” honor. Seniors Evan Coble and Kayla Wright placed second and senior Nolan Morris and ??? Marisa Ghramm placed fourth at the tournament.

She won by fall over Wrenn Lunt (Coffeyville-Field Kindley HS) 5-16 (Fall 0:14); lost by fall to Layla Tindle (Fredonia HS) 23-2 (Fall 3:20); won by fall over Melanie Arias (Andover Central HS) 0-18 (Fall 0:29); lost by fall to Pyper White (Altamont- Labette County HS) 22-3 (Fall 1:48); and lost by fall to Sierra Eastman (Burden-Central HS) 9-14 (Fall 3:18).
125: Kayla Wright (175) placed 2nd. She won by fall over Michelle Carranco (Independence HS) 7-18 (Fall 3:48); won by fall over Hannah Benson (Altamont-Labette County HS) 17-9 (Fall 4:53); and lost a 2-7 decision to Kahlyn Davis (Halstead HS/Sedgwick HS) 26-7.
132: Evan Coble (26-4) placed 2nd. He won by fall over Noah Henderson (Caney Valley HS) 15-9 (Fall 1:40); won an 11-6 decision over Lucas Holthaus (Seneca-Nemaha Central HS) 17-6; and lost a 0-6 decision to Logan Courtois (Burlingame HS) 25-1.
157: Nolan Denton (1117) placed 4th. He won a 12-3 major decision over Kayden Hewitt (Council Grove HS/Allen-Northern Heights HS) 3-16; lost by fall to Kaden Miller (Burden-Central HS) 24-7 (Fall 0:54); won by fall over Bostyn Holman (Burlingame HS) 3-17 (Fall 1:40); and lost by fall to Cooper White (Caney Valley HS) 5-7 (Fall 3:55).
165: Creyo Koop (30-0) placed 1st. He won by fall over Jace Wren (Caney Valley HS) 11-13 (Fall 0:22); won by fall over Brody Gunderman (Humboldt HS) 12-11 (Fall 0:41); and won by fall over Abram Keim (Seneca- Nemaha Central HS) 15-3 (Fall 1:48).
215: Boedy Murphy (1516) placed 6th. He lost by fall to Issac Payne (Wichita- Haysville Campus HS) 1-4 (Fall 5:55); lost by fall to Xander Woods (Burden-Central HS) 19-7 (Fall 5:00); lost by fall to Garren Goodner (Humboldt HS) 19-9 (Fall 3:30); lost a 1-2 decision to Noah Couey (Leon-Bluestem HS) 13-18; and lost by fall to Radyn Martin (Caney Valley HS) 19-8 (Fall 0:46) 285: Edward Metcalf (3-19) placed 5th. West Elk wrestlers will take on Iola and Osawatomie for dual action on Feb. 1, before traveling to Jayhawk Linn for the Three Rivers Tournament on Feb. 6. The Lady Patriots will travel to Columbus on Feb. 10 for 4-1A Regional action and the boys will compete at the 3-1A Eureka Regional on Feb. 17. The top four in each weight class will advance to state contests.
