The Madison Bulldogs made the short trek to Emporia last week for the Lyon County League (LCL)Tournament, where the Lady Bulldogs went 2-1 for the week and placed third. The Madison boys went 1-2 and finished fourth at the tournament.
Lady Bulldogs Opening Round
The Lady Bulldogs faced the Hartford Jaguars on Tuesday, Jan. 23. and punched their ticket to continue forward in the Lyon County League Tournament.
Madison claimed an early lead over Hartford in the first quarter, taking a 7-point advantage to the second period, 147. The Jaguars worked to decrease their deficit, Madison clinging to the lead 21-18 at the half. The Bulldogs knocked down 8 points to start the second half, ending the third quarter, 29-24. Madison took home the win over Hartford, ending the game 38-34. Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were: Jalynn Weakley, Candice Ashlock 9, Sadie Albert 7, Jenna Thomsen 6, Caylin Luthi 4 and Brooke Gaines with 2 points.
Championship Semifinals
Madison stepped onto the court for another round of LCL action on Friday, Jan. 26. The Lady Bulldogs claimed an early 15-14 lead, after the first quarter, but struggled in the second and trailed at halftime 17-25. Lebo continued to be hot in the third, outscoring the Bulldogs 18-8 and Madison trailed 25-43 going into the final quarter. Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were Weakley 15, Caylin Luthi 13, Ashlock 5 and Albert 3.
Consolation Round
The Lady Bulldogs faced Marais Des Cygnes Valley (MdCV) in their final match-up of the LCL on Saturday, as the two teams faced each other for third place. Madison outscored MdCV in the first half, 21-9, and continued the momentum into the second half. Both teams would score 12 points in the third quarter; but, the Bulldogs went 11-5 over MdCV in the fourth to clinch the victory, 44-26. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Weakley 13, Ashlock 12, Gaines 9, Caylin Luthi 6 and Albert 4.
Madison Bulldogs Opening Round
In the first round of the LCL Tournament, the Madison Boys faced Hartford. Madison lead 23-16 at the half. The Bulldogs hung on for the win, 41-39. Scoring for Madison were: Will Grimmett, Colton Isch, Lane Darbro, Cade Hurburt, Octavian Dean and Gannon Pyle.
Championship Semifinals
The Madison Bulldogs faced Olpe in the championship semifinals, where they fell to the Eagles, 3572. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Isch 14, Dean 8, Darbro 5, Cohen Luthi 3, and Hayden Helm and Grimmett each with 2.
Consolation Round
Madison boys faced Burlingame in their final match-up of the LCL tournament, where they also battled for third place. The Bulldogs trailed 8-14 after the first, but led by two, 31-29, going into the fourth and final quarter. The Bulldogs lost the game 37-45 and finished fourth place in the tournament. Individual stats were unavailable at the time of publication.
Up Next
On Tuesday, Jan. 30, Madison was scheduled to travel to Mission Valley before hosting Northern Heights on Feb. 2, for their Winter Royalty match-up. The Bulldogs will then travel to West Franklin on Feb. 6.
