Last Friday, Jan. 26, the West Elk Patriots hosted the Cardinals of South Haven for their Winter Homecoming game.
The Lady Patriots trailed by one after the first, 6-7, but came back in the second to lead going into intermission, 1817. West Elk outscored the Cardinals in the third to lead by four, 28-24, going into the final quarter. South Haven would claim the lead with just a minute remaining in the game, but with 30-seconds left on the clock, freshman Milly Koop would make a basket to take the lead 32-31. However, the Cardinals took the ball downcourt and with a controversial buzzer-beater would make a two-point shot of their own and was deemed good. The Patriots fell to South Haven, 3233. Scoring for the Lady Patriots were Briea Mc-Gee 9, Makaila Gillespie 7, Neveah Tillapaugh and Koop each with 6, Kylie Beougher 2 and Maggie Denton 1.
