New Owners For Local Thrift Store

After just a little over a year and a half after she returned to the Eureka area, Kimmy (Gates) Smith, and her husband David, have taken over ownership of the thrift store, located at 1501 E. River Street, in Eureka. Kimmy’s Closet opened earlier this month, after Lisa’s closed.

The Smiths moved to Eureka in August of 2023 as they felt the smaller school system and environment would benefit their teenage son, Charlie.

The couple didn’t have plans of purchasing the thrift store when they first moved to Eureka as both have full time jobs. Kimmy works for Greenwood County Title and David is the chef at the Eureka Country Club. According to Kimmy, Lisa Cox, owner of Lisa’s, had shared that she would be retiring after the holidays. “We simply did not want to see the community lose out on a valuable resource for those in need,” stated Kimmy. “Thrift stores contribute to communities in various ways. We help those who are down on their luck by providing a local and affordable option for clothing and household items. We also recycle goods and give second life to items that would otherwise clutter landfills,” she continued.

While the Smiths are excited for this chapter and an avenue to give back to the community, they both are also avid treasure hunters. They enjoy visiting various thrift and antique stores, as well as retail establishments, to seek the best deals and the most unique items they can find. “We are working to bring these deals into the shop as well and offer new items at 50% or more off retail,” stated Kimmy.

Kimmy’s closet is open daily, Monday-Friday 11 a.m- 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. On Mondays, Kimmy’s Closet plans to post weekly specials.

The thrift store will also continue to offer meals to those who are hungry on Wednesdays. Food donations are accepted and will be forwarded to those in need at no cost via our free food cart or through these weekly warm meals.
