Gore And Escareno Placed First At Titan Invitational

Two Lady Tornado senior wrestlers Lyndsey Escareno and Makyla Gore went undefeated at the Wichita South Titan Invitational last Saturday, Jan. 27, to claim top honors. Lady Tornado freshman Maela Neill placed third.

While at Wichita South, Lady Tornado Escareno also made history as she claimed her 100th career win; a first for Lady Tornado wrestling.

Following are the individual results for Eureka participants:

125: Neill (18-9) placed 3rd. She won by fall over Grace Davis (Wichita-Northwest HS) 4-13 (Fall 2:50); lost by fall to Ariyana Norphlet (Wichita-West HS) 15-6 (Fall 0:46); won an 11-1 major decision over Saleen Jacques (Mulvane HS) 3-14; and won an 8-2 decision over Brandy Trail (Wichita-Haysville Campus HS) 6-17.

140: Escareno (11-3) placed 1st. She won an 18-1 tech fall over Lily Schuster (Wichita-Bishop Carroll HS) 1-9 (TF-1.5 2:42); won by fall over Riley Belt (Douglass HS) 13-11 (Fall 1:29); and won by fall over Madalynn Fritschle (Wichita-Bishop Carroll HS) 13-11 (Fall 0:35) to pick up her 100th career win.

170: Gore (20-5) placed 1st. She won by fall over Allegra Herrera (Wichita-North HS) 0-2 (Fall 0:15); won by fall over Jelena Garza (Mulvane HS) 2-8 (Fall 0:25); won by fall over April Isbell (Wichita- Northwest HS) 7-6 (Fall 0:41); and won by fall over Kaylee Horinek (Wellington HS) 12-7 (Fall 1:18).

190: Harlie Owings (16-12) won by fall over Karla Martinez (Wichita-Bishop Carroll HS) 23-8 (Fall 1:54); lost by fall to Braylie Knisley (Douglass HS) 21-12 (Fall 3:52); and lost by fall to Maray Rogers (Wichita-Northwest HS) 15-12 (Fall 2:39).

Eureka wrestlers will compete at Cherryvale on Jan. 30 for Tri-Valley League honors before competing at the Circle Tourmament on Feb. 2 and 3 for their final regular season tournament. Lady Tornadoes will then travel to Columbus for 4-1A Regional action on Feb. 10. The top four in each weight class will advance to 4-1A State.
