Eureka JH Basketball Split With Fredonia

Junior High Basketball traveled to Fredonia last Thursday, Jan. 25 where teams split with the Yellowjackets.

Junior High Basketball traveled to Fredonia last Thursday, Jan. 25 where teams split with the Yellowjackets.

The Tornado Boys’ A-Team trailed by 4 following the first quarter. Eighth grader Eli Mason put the first points on the board for the Tornadoes and tallied all shots for the quarter.

Before the end of the half, Eureka knocked down four additional shots, still trailing Fredonia 14-19. Both teams were able to knock down 16 points in the second half. Eureka fell, 30-35.

Scoring for the Tornadoes were: Mason 16, Will Morris and Wacey Ross with 5 points each and Brody Mitchell scoring 4.

Eureka B-Team Boys claimed a narrow lead early in the game, going to the second half 3-2. With no shots finding the hole for the Tornadoes in the second quarter, Eureka went to halftime trailing Fredonia, 3-7. The Tornadoes came back in the third quarter, taking a 4-point lead into the final quarter, Fredonia trailing 15-11. The Tornadoes brought home a 20-14 win over the Yellowjackets.

Scoring for Eureka were: Christian Sanchez and Morris with 7 points each and Henry Perrier, JaKolby Robbins and Killian Harrington each with 2 points.

Lady Tornadoes

The Lady Tornadoes A-team were slow to get going last Thursday, in Fredonia, as they trailed 6-10 after the first and 8-21 going into the break; but, they came out strong and were within three, 20-23, going into the final quarter. Eureka would get the edge in fourth and win the game 33-31. Scoring for Eureka were Sydney Lindamood 20, Karsyn Osborne 8, Arabella Shepherd and Jersey Cox each with 2 and Lylly Stapleford 1.

Only three Lady Tornadoes were able to drop a bucket in the B-game and Eureka fell 6-20. Scoring for Eureka were Abby Foth, Amorette Guilliame and McKenna McDonald, all with 2.

Up Next

Eureka began the Tri-Valley League tournament on Monday of this week and will compete in Humboldt on Thursday, Feb. 1, with times to be determined. Championship games for the A-team will be held on Saturday.
