Two Lady Tornado seniors claimed hardware at their final home wrestling invitational last Saturday, Jan. 20.
Eureka’s Makyla Gore pinned her way to a first place finish as she went 3-0 for the day, in the 170-pound weight class.
Lady Tornado Lyndsey Escareno went 2-1 for the day and placed second in the 140-pound weight class.
Following are the individual match results for Eureka participants: 125: Maela Neill (16-10) won a 6-3 decision over Shayla Rezac (Rossville) 13-15; lost by fall to Kayla Wright (West Elk) 16-4 (Fall 1:56); and lost a 0-15 tech fall to Cara Altis (Columbus) 13-9 (TF-1.5 3:00).
140: Lyndsey Escareno (10-4) placed 2nd. She won by fall over Destiny Behler (Rose Hill) 2-12 (Fall 1:26); won by fall over Elaina Gamble (Mulvane) 8-12 (Fall 0:36); and lost a 2-5 decision to Brooklyn Lima (Columbus) 20-3.
170: Makyla Gore (19-5) placed 1st. She received a bye; won by fall over Kaycee SinghDhillon (St. Mary’s) 8-6 (Fall 0:26); won by fall over Loren Gonzalez (Mulvane) 11-7 (Fall 0:55); and won by fall over Taylor Plumley (Cherryvale) 20-2 (Fall 2:57).
190: Harlie Owings (1613) placed 6th. She received a bye; lost by fall to Layton Roberts (Douglass) 20-6 (Fall 3:40); received a bye; won by fall over Olivia Saucedo (Cherryvale) 1110 (Fall 3:33); lost by fall to Onna Moreland (Caney Valley) 16-2 (Fall 2:05); and lost by fall to Layton Roberts (Douglass) 20-6 (Fall 4:21).

The Lady Tornadoes are scheduled to travel to Wichita South on Saturday, Jan. 27. Matches are slated to begin at 8 a.m. Eureka will then travel to Cherryvale on Jan. 30 for the TVL Girls Tournament, at 3 p.m. The final regular season tournament will be at Circle on Feb. 2-3. Lady Tornadoes will then compete at 4-1A Regional Action in Columbus on Feb. 10. The top four in each weight bracket will advance to the State Tournament in Salina, Feb. 2224.
