Just Thinkin’

The air temperature outside is two degrees and the snow flurries are beginning to accumulate. In times such as these, my Grandmother Lane would tell me that it was too cold to snow. The air temperature outside is two degrees and the snow flurries are beginning to accumulate. In times such as these, my Grandmother Lane would tell me that it was too cold to snow. I looked out my window and watched the dry snow float down, then blow across the sidewalks until it caught on a grassy surface. It would be a good morning for a nap if I

hadn’t already taken one.

The snow and cold blanketed the sounds the occasional car would make as it inched its way along Zunis, headed for the more worn ruts of 21st Street.

There is some wildlife scurrying across the lawn, up and down tree trunks. Speaking of wildlife, you should have seen the interesting folks I saw scrambling around Reasor’s (Reasor’s Foods) parking lot prior to this storm moving in. This would be good weather for a thick, oldschool newspaper. Still, I have my Nook. I can read some until the NFL game comes on about midafternoon. Waiting for television programing, I thought about the times of – well, I believe it is called “appointment viewing” these days. I remember when our weekly evenings might be scheduled around say Gunsmoke on a Saturday evening at 9. I remember not being pleased when it was moved to Mondays.

If you missed the show at its scheduled showing, well, you missed it. No “On Demand,” no streaming.

Remember when TV trays were TV trays? Dinner was eaten in front of the living room television set, if you had an appointment. An appointment with a television program. Like the iPhone of today, this discouraged family conversation.

Technology wasn’t always intrusive in that way. I remember in my Grandparents’ (McBride) home the radio was turned off during dinner.

Speaking of being turned off through a meal, do you ever get any calls noted as “spam alert?” Me too. Especially at mealtime.

Have you noticed how many are alleged to be from very small communities in Oklahoma? I have several guesses as to why, but I don’t really know.

I do know there are a number of them I have never heard of, so I Google them. Thanks to spam calls, I have learned considerable Oklahoma geography recently. I have put considerable effort into discovering a positive element to spam calls.
